How many gigs did you do in New York?
New York was wicked, I did two shows and you lot were great. I was getting lined up for the album release. I was happy to see the New York people too, it was great.

So did you do some of your new stuff then?
No work on the album in NYC but I passed on a track to Common that I want him to feature on.

Are you looking forward to Japan?
I’m really looking forward to going.

Have you performed in Japan before? I bet they know all about you out there!
Yes, Japan is one of my bigger markets. I've been playing there since 1992.

Any chance of some new stuff at the January Jazz Café dates?
Not sure yet, you'll have to wait and see!

Ok, if you can’t tell us when your album comes out, could you tell us when Chris Ballin’s new album comes out?
Not quite sure about Chris' album but you will hear new stuff from him next year.

How is your family back home in Ghana?
Mum and dad are doing very well. They built a 14 bedroom guest house.

Which version of be thankful?
The one with Angie Stone.

Have you chosen a title for the album?
No title for the new album as yet.

Will you be shooting any videos for the new project?
Yes, I do intend to shoot some new videos.

Is it right that Stevie features on the new album?
Yes it is, I got Stevie at last! He has written me a song which he features on.

2004 looks like it will be a big year for you.
Every year I've been blessed so 2004 will be a bonus! I intend to be in the States a lot in 2004.

Who was the woman singing vocals on the Saturday video?
Ii forget her name but she is the same girl singing Saturday on the Tribe Called Quest video.

Omar, what are you listening to right now?
I'm listening to an old mix tape 93/94 jungle and Floetry.

How do you like that Floetry?
Floetry are bad and there from around my manner

Bad meaning good!

Cee-Lo came by the store recently...he said wonderful things about you.
Yeah he's one striking dude vocally and visually we sang together in Atlanta and made a big impression on me.

A lot of folks are into the "neo-soul" craze. Do you label your music as "neo-soul"?
I haven’t bothered labelling my music for a long time

Yes, I went to Dallas for Ms Badu's birthday party in 2001

Do you know whatever happened to Misty Oldland. You sung on her album didn’t you?
Yeah, the last I heard Misty had moved to Spain and is continuing to make music out there.

I know she did a second album (Japan only)
Yeah, on a song called "Got Me A Feeling"

What is your favourite place to visit in the states?
New York, San Francisco and Atlanta.

There are some tracks on Terri Walker's CD that are very Omar-ish!
I haven’t heard all of her stuff but I do like her style.

Do you usually use the same back-up band for all your gigs?
Well no, recently I used a different band in the states.

Who are you using for back-up in Japan? Is Samia going with you?
The usual band including Chris and my sister.

So Omar, besides the new CD next year, what other goals do you have?
It’s all about touring and the internet for me right now .
